In memorandum 10/9/95 - 8/2/05:
Peruvian Best ala Best (aka BB) was our first born male and was of superior
quality (even if measured by today's standards). His progeny included
our 9-time Champion and 12-time Get of Sire winning super stud "Simba
of A.L. Paca's"
along with numerous other multi-champion sires and dams comprising the
foundation stock at our farms. We would most certainly still be using BB
today to achieve the upgrades in density and fineness he was well known for,
but unfortunately he was injured in an accident and damaged several vertebra
in his upper neck. We had to euthanize him in August of 2005. Here, from our
archives, is our listing for BB as it was from Summer of 2005... |
|
Peruvian Best ala Best (BB) is one
of our representatives of the Accoyo line from Peru. He is everything his
name implies with conformation, fiber density, crimp, and especially brightness on
par with any of the finest alpacas in the country!
Spinners and fiber experts have been
in awe of his fiber! He yields 9 to 10 pounds of award winning, extremely
fine fiber each year.
BB's mother, Pperuvian Emperatiz,
was one of the first females we purchased when we started our alpaca business.
We still own her today as she continues to produce crias which are extremely
competitive in the breeding market. As we were shearing her in the spring
of 2001 it appeared her fleece had almost fully maintained the qualities it had
when she was much younger. We did another fleece histogram at that time
and obtained a micron count of 26.9 with a CV of only 20.5. These numbers
show this is a fleece still having the quality of many one or two year olds -
remarkable considering Emperatiz was about 11 years of age at the time!
BB's sire, Pperuvian Caligula, is
one of the first alpacas to be imported into our country from the famous
Estancia Accoyo in Peru. Caligula's progeny have shown unusually well in the show
ring, so much so that Caligula has won many Get of Sire awards including the
largest get ever held. This was at the 1997 AOBA National Show where
BB was one of the three Caligula offspring who won this for his sire.
Production off of Best ala Best have
performed well in competition. In fact, two of his offspring are in our
2004 show string and have been winning multiple color championships. One
of these, a fawn male by the name of "Simba"
has so far won 3 color championships. Another, a brown male by the name of
"Super Sonic", just won his first color championship and did this while only
being a juvenile! Best ala Best's crias are very much alike: great heads, large bone structures,
and fleeces exhibiting significant brightness, crimp and tremendous density. |
