A major goal of any business when making a
product is to limit unwanted variation; to improve quality control.
Consistency of production is likewise, an area needing attention in a
breeding program. In order to consistently produce high quality
offspring, two components are required: high quality genetic lineage,
and prepotency for passing those genetic characteristics to each and
every offspring. These were the two major objectives achieved in
creating Linebacker.
Linebacker’s sire,
Snowmass Cchatanca, is a full Peruvian having a micron of 18.4 and CV of
20.1. Linebacker’s dam, Peruvian Charmingway, with a micron of 17.1 and CV
of 22.8, is the mother to other well-respected males such as Snowmass
Millennium. Both Cchatanca and Charmingway are out of Peruvian Hemingway who
has proven to be one of the most influential herd sires in this country.
Employing Hemingway as
grandfather on both sides of Linebacker concentrated this superior quality
genetics and provided us with an exquisite and elite male who reliably
produces crias with beautiful heads, correct frames, and the all so
beautiful Hemingway fleece character, brightness and hand.

(1) Linebacker's previous owner has
not previously tracked fleece weight so 2000 and 2001 year's numbers
are not available for him.
The shear weight for year 2002 represents total prime and second
yields. Third cuts (leg, belly, etc) are not included in this
number.
(2)
Due to a variation in sampling technique Linebacker's second fleece analysis
should not be directly compared to his first sample.
Linebacker's second fiber analysis was done using 3
sample points: front shoulder, side, and rear flank. A fiber
sample was taken from all three locations and then blended together to
create a single composite sample for analysis. Usually only a single
sample is taken from the side of the blanket where the fiber is usually the
finest.
This advanced 3 point sample was done to
measure the consistency of Linebacker's entire fleece (from bumper to
bumper). His excellent CV of 21.3 provides additional witness
this male has a most uniform (as well as very fine) fleece. |
